Exploring our connection to food.
The Gambier Deli, located at 110 Gaskin Avenue in the heart of Gambier, Ohio, is a cornerstone of the Kenyon College community. Since 1991, it has evolved from a small six-item shop into a bustling New York-style deli with a menu featuring over 87 unique items.
The deli is a family-run, women-owned business led by Jeanne Poland and her husband, Stu.
Origins: Originally known as the Village Deli, the Polands purchased it in 1991. They transformed it by studying legendary delis like Katzinger’s in Columbus and Zabar’s in New York to bring authentic deli culture to rural Ohio. The New Space: In 2019, the deli moved into its current modern retail space on Gaskin Avenue following the demolition of its former home, Farr Hall. The new interior preserves the "old deli" feel by using the same tables, chairs, and historical photos from the original location.
